grabbing headlines

I am a citizen of a nation where we accuse guns
Instead of schools and the people firing on them
Demonizing lone, outcast male children
Not a society that sweeps emotions under Fifties style rugs
Or rails hippie proud against unusual expression
Maybe games or shows or songs or dope?
Surely not a lack of hope!
An America still dreaming about lottery luck and prizes
Where we spend six grade, three middle and four high years schooling
Told to be adults, earn degrees or flip guilty burgers
Taking out giant loans to buy a confusing future
Encouraged to look forward to job
